The Financial Stability Report (FSR) is published Tuesday, which is “set to accompany a further increase in the countercyclical capital buffer (CCyB) as the Bank of England continues to (gradually) take away the punchbowl for unsecured lending,” writes broker Panmure Gordon.
“It seems likely that the Financial Policy Committee will tighten conditions in the unsecured consumer lending market, given a number of broad hints in recent months,” adds Investec Securities.
Alongside the FSR, the Bank of England publishes the UK stress test results for the seven banks and building societies participating in the 2017 test: Barclays (BARC), HSBC (HSBA), Lloyds Banking Group (LLOY), Nationwide, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Santander UK and Standard Chartered (STAN).
It’ll be all eyes on RBS, which looks the most vulnerable, at a time when it faces a mega fine from the US authorities for its part in the subprime scandal. The results will be crucial for dividends at Barclays, Lloyds and Standard Chartered.
