The euro area unemployment rate remained stable in August at the lowest level seen since early 2009, data from Eurostat showed Monday.
The jobless rate came in at 9.1 percent in August, the same rate as seen in July. This was the lowest rate since February 2009.
The rate was forecast to drop to 9 percent.
There were 14.751 million unemployed in the euro area. The number of people out of work decreased by 42,000 from July.
The EU28 unemployment rate dropped to 7.6 percent in August from 7.7 percent in July. This was the lowest rate recorded in the EU28 since November 2008.
The youth unemployment rate in the euro area remained stable at 18.9 percent in August.
