Japan Small Business Confidence Rises As Expected

Japan’s small business confidence improved as expected in September, after weakening in the prior month, survey data from Shoko Chukin Bank showed Wednesday.

The small business sentiment rose to 49.4 in September from 49.0 in August. The figure also matched consensus estimate.

The index measuring confidence in the manufacturing sector climbed by 1.1 points to 49.1 in September from 48.0 in August. Meanwhile, the non-manufacturing index dropped from 49.7 to 49.5.

The business sentiment for October is expected to increase to 50.6. The index is forecast to rise to 50.4 in manufacturing and to 50.7 in non-manufacturing.
